A crucial element of successful backyard poultry farming is providing them with a safe and comfortable living space, which is where a chicken coop comes in. Chicken coops hold vital importance in offering protection against predators, adequate ventilation, and roosting spots for your flock. We have also reviewed a range of chicken runs.
Chicken coops come in various sizes and styles, catering to the diverse preferences of backyard poultry keepers. The right chicken coop will depend on factors such as the number of chickens you intend to raise, available space in your yard, and your particular climate. Opting for a chicken coop with a combination of durability and ease of maintenance becomes an ideal choice for many.
When purchasing a chicken coop, it is essential to consider factors such as the coop's size, the quality of materials used, ventilation, and accessibility for cleaning and egg collection. These features will contribute to the overall wellbeing and productivity of your chickens. Climate-specific provisions like insulation or additional shade may also be crucial, depending on your location.
In our quest to help you find the perfect chicken coop for your backyard flock, we have spent countless hours researching and comparing different models on the market. Read on as we share our findings to ease your search for an ideal chicken coop that meets your requirements and offers a comfortable and safe environment for your chickens.
Explore our handpicked selection of the finest chicken coops available on the market, ensuring the perfect home for your feathered friends.
Though compact, VOUNOT Chicken Coop offers comfort and functionality for small and medium-sized chickens.
After assembling and using the VOUNOT Chicken Coop, we can attest to the comfort and quality it offers for our small and medium-sized chickens. The waterproof and warm asphalt roof protects our feathered friends from harsh weather, making their living space cosy and secure.
In addition to this, the coop features a spacious run, giving chickens plenty of room to roam and stretch their wings. Its size is approximately 190 x 100 x 64 cm, making it suitable for other small animals like quail, rabbits, and guinea pigs too. We particularly appreciate the removable tray that simplifies the cleaning process, ensuring that our chickens live in hygienic surroundings.
However, this coop isn't ideal for everyone. Larger chicken breeds may find it cramped, and it can only house 2-3 small to medium-sized chickens. Furthermore, the build quality may struggle against rough weather conditions. Regardless, the VOUNOT Chicken Coop is a decent choice for those with limited space or just starting with their small chicken flock.

Updated 1 hour agoOur verdict: the Cocoon Large 8ft Chicken Coop is a great choice for those with 3-4 medium-sized birds or 5-6 bantams, offering a practical and affordable solution.
Having used the Cocoon Large 8ft Chicken Coop, we were impressed by the overall construction and design. Made from superior quality wood, it's built to withstand the test of time and looks fantastic in any back garden. The unique features, such as the metal-lined pull-out tray and four Perspex windows, make maintaining and observing the coop a breeze.
The access ramp inside the run allows for easy entry and exit for the chickens, while the locking arm for the inner door lets you securely close the roost at night. One downside we noticed is the height; standing at only 103.2cm, it can be a bit tricky to clean and access the inner sections. However, the fully opening roof does help with cleaning and ventilation, making it more manageable.
While putting the coop together, we found the instructions to be a bit lacking, and labelling of parts would have significantly improved the assembly process. Overall, if you're looking for a quality chicken coop with ample space for your birds and a good set of practical features, the Cocoon Large 8ft Chicken Coop is worth considering.

Updated 1 hour agoIf you're looking for an affordable and functional chicken coop, the FeelGoodUK Windsor Medium Hen House is worth considering.
We recently set up the FeelGoodUK Windsor Chicken Coop in our garden and found that it's a solid wooden-framed coop with everything necessary for keeping our chickens happy. We particularly appreciated the inclusion of a twin section nesting box, secure outside run area, and an easy-to-clean slide-out tray. The external nest box has two sections making it convenient for collecting fresh eggs and cleaning.
One issue we encountered during the assembly process was that the instructions provided were quite basic, so it took us a bit longer to put everything together. However, once assembled, we could see that the design of the coop was well thought out. The slide-out galvanised tray below the house section made it easy for us to clean and maintain the coop. We also noted that the coop included multiple locking doors, allowing us to access the nest box, coop, and run easily.
While the wood used for constructing the coop may not be the most robust, it is worth noting that this is an affordable option that still offers a decent level of protection for your chickens. The locking latches on the doors keep the birds safe from predators, and the tongue and groove roof design helps prevent Red Mite infestations. Overall, the FeelGoodUK Windsor Chicken Coop and Run Medium Hen House is a great option for those looking for an affordable and functional chicken coop, but keep in mind that you may need to invest in an additional extension run for more space if free-ranging is not an option.

Updated 1 hour agoThis highly functional and sturdy chicken coop promises to keep your hens safe and comfortable all year long.
We recently put together the Large XXL Eggshell Buckingham Chicken Coop, and our first impression was its impressive size. The coop was large enough to accommodate our hens comfortably. The 3mm welded and coated wire ensured that our birds were protected from foxes and other predators.
Our hens seemed to take a liking to the fully covered run which allowed them to roam freely while being protected from the elements. However, when it came to assembly, we encountered a few challenges. Some of the parts appeared flimsy, and we had to be extra careful to avoid damaging them. The provided instructions were less than ideal, so patience and resourcefulness came in handy during the assembly process.
Summing up, the Large XXL Eggshell Buckingham Chicken Coop is an excellent option for those seeking a spacious and secure shelter for their hens. Despite a few drawbacks, this coop delivers on its promises, and we're confident that our hens will be well-cared for in their new home.

Updated 1 hour agoThe FeelGoodUK Hen House is a solid choice for poultry owners looking for a functional and affordable chicken coop.
We recently used the FeelGoodUK Hen House Large Chicken Coop and found it to be quite impressive in terms of space and functionality. The coop features four internal roosting perches which provide plenty of sleeping space for your chickens, and the overall dimensions ensure a comfortable space for them to live in.
Another aspect we appreciated was the adjustable ventilation and the slide-out galvanised tray, which made cleaning a breeze. The coop's design prioritises the wellbeing of your chickens and ensures that they have options when it comes to covering their basic needs, such as access to nesting boxes and the outdoors.
However, we did experience some issues with the coop. The wood tended to expand, causing the slide-out tray to become difficult to remove. Additionally, the lid for the nesting area could only be opened slightly, needing to be removed for proper access. Despite these drawbacks, the FeelGoodUK Hen House Large Chicken Coop remains a solid choice for those seeking a functional and affordable coop for their poultry needs.

Updated 1 hour agoFinding the perfect chicken coop in High Westwood can be a daunting task, so we've put together a helpful buying guide to make the process easier. We'll go through the key features to consider when choosing the best product for your needs, ensuring you make an informed decision.
First and foremost, consider the size and space required for your chicken coop. Assess the number of chickens you plan to keep and ensure the coop provides enough room for them to move comfortably. As a rule of thumb, allow 1 to 1.5 square feet per chicken within the coop, and at least 10 square feet per chicken in the run.
Ensure your chicken coop is made from high-quality, durable materials. The most common choices include wood and metal, both of which have their advantages. Wooden coops often have better insulation, while metal coops tend to be more durable and require less maintenance. Prioritise sturdy construction and weather-resistant features.
Having easy access to the coop and its various areas is essential, as it will make cleaning, egg collection, and feeding much simpler. Look for a design with accessible nesting boxes and adequate doors or openings that will make it easy to maintain a clean environment for your chickens.
Proper ventilation is crucial for the health of your chickens, as it helps prevent the buildup of moisture and harmful gases. Look for a coop with ample ventilation, such as windows, vents, or slats. Adequate lighting is also important, as it can impact egg production; opt for a coop with windows or other sources of natural light.
Keeping your birds safe from predators is vital. Ensure the coop and run have a secure, lockable door and robust fencing that extends underground to deter digging predators. Features like hardware cloth, sturdy latches, and a fully enclosed run can help protect your flock.
Some coops come with a variety of extra features that can make your life easier and keep your chickens happy. These may include built-in feeders and waterers, removable roosting bars, and ramps for your chickens to access different levels of the coop. Assess your needs and preferences to find a coop with the right features for you.
